How Can You Show Random Acts of Kindness?

National Random Acts of Kindness Day is on the 17th February, the idea of the day is to highlight that even the smallest acts of kindness are significant. One small act of kindness can lead to more positive outcomes and can create a domino effect. Being kind doesn’t just benefit who you are kind to, but it can also benefit yourself. Doing acts of kindness can reduce your stress and anxiety, boost your self-esteem and boost your immune system. There are multiple ways of getting involved in National Random Acts of Kindness Day, both big and small. If you want to get involved, we have compiled a list of our favourite random acts of kindness.

Getting Involved

Giving someone a compliment

Compliments make us feel good, both giving and receiving them. You can make someone’s day by sharing positivity in the form of a compliment, from simply complimenting someone’s outfit to telling them how they have made a positive impact in your life. Sincere compliments can help build trust, as they can strengthen your relationships and can be used as a sign of respect. Compliments can also help build someone else’s confidence because it can help them recognise the value within themselves. Giving someone a compliment can make us feel good about ourselves, as you can feel like you have had a positive impact on others.

Donating to Charity

Donating to charity can be done in multiple forms, such as money, time or even old clothes and items you no longer want. One person’s charitable donation, no matter how big or small, can positively impact someone else’s life. Donating to a cause you care about can benefit both the charity and yourself. The knowledge that you’re helping others can be a good mood-booster and can leave you feeling more fulfilled.  As donating to charity is a selfless act, you can also improve your self-esteem and self-worth because you will achieve a greater sense of satisfaction and growth.

Reconnecting with an old friend

Friends are the family we chose; they make our problems their own. They are always there for us through thick and thin. However, as we grow older sometimes friendships may become distant and grow apart. But there are multiple reasons to reach out and reconnect with an old friend. Meeting up with an old friend can bring back a lot of memories and remind us of when we were younger.

Pay it Forwards

Pay it forwards is when the recipient of an act of kindness does something kind for someone else and it creates a domino effect, rather than accepting the original act of kindness. Pay it forward is about sharing a positive moment with someone else to make them smile. There are multiple ways you can pay it forward, for example paying for the person’s coffee behind you in line, complimenting a stranger or leaving £1 in a trolley for the next person.
