Road Closures across Newcastle, Gateshead and South Shields on Sunday 7th September 2025

The Great North Run 2025 is fast approaching with only a couple days to go! With over 60,000 runners expected to participate as well as thousands of spectators to cheer them on there will be significant road closures across the trail leading through Newcastle, Gateshead and South Tyneside. To our care staff who will be working on Sunday please keep in mind about the following road closures:

A167 Central Motorway: Cowgate Roundabout/Grandstand Rd Interchange to Great North Rd (B1318 Interchange) from 8pm on Saturday, September 6 until 6.30pm on Sunday, September 7.
A167 Central Motorway: Closed from Great North Road Interchange (B1318) to Park Lane (A184) between 8.45am until 5pm on Sunday.
A184 Park Lane/Felling Bypass to Whitemare Pool Interchange: From 9am until 5pm on Sunday
A194 (M) Whitemare Pool Interchange/Leam Lane to John Reid Road Roundabout (A1300) between 9.45am until 4pm on Sunday.
John Reid Rd (A1300) to Prince Edward Rd (A1300) to Redwell Lane/Coast Rd (A183) roundabout between 9.45am until 4pm on Sunday.
Coast Road (A183): Closed from Redwell Lane to Mowbray Road between 8am until 5.30pm on Sunday.
Bents Park Road: Closed from Sea Way to Mowbray Rd between 2.45am on Sunday until 5.30pm
Coast Road (A183): From Marsden Rock to Redwell Lane (Northbound only) between 2pm until 5.30pm on Sunday.
Leam Lane (A194) northeast bound carriageway: From White Mare Pool (A194(M)/A184) to John Reid Road (A1300) between 9.45am and 4pm.
Prince Edward Road and Redwell Lane (A1300): From King George Road (A1018) to Coast Road (A183) between 9.45am and 4pm.
Mowbray Road (crossing between Iolanthe Terrace and Westoe Avenue): Closed from 9.45am until 4pm.
Station Road (southbound): Closed for its entire length between 9.45am and 4pm.
Howard Street (A185): Closed for its entire length between 9.45am and 4pm.
Maxwell Street: Closed from its junction with Western Approach eastwards for 40 meters between 9.45am and 4pm.
